welcome to the sacramental substack!

My name is Jeff Locke. I’m a California native and live with my wife and four children in the Bay Area. I’m an Anglican priest serving as the Rector of Eucharist Church in San Francisco.

Some things you should know about me…

  • I like music and France and running.

  • I serve on the board of Hands at Work and travel to Africa as often as I can.

  • I believe that everything in the universe participates sacramentally in the very being of God.

that’s why I decided to start this newsletter.

Having grown up in American evangelical Christianity and served in several churches over the past decade and a half, I’ve seen multiple varieties of spiritual unhealthiness. That unhealthiness often stems, I think, from our uniquely American brand of alienation from each other, creation, ourselves, and, by extension, from God.

A spirituality rooted in the sacramental nature of all things in Christ helps us recover the wholeness and integrity that we have inherited from the early centuries of the Church, but lost in the muddle of modernity. My goal in this newsletter is to dust off some oft-neglected truths, shine them up a bit, and offer them to help construct a more holistic Christian spirituality.

The Sacramental Substack will post weekly on Tuesdays. Please reach out, comment, and tell me what you find helpful/frustrating/wrong/illuminating about anything and everything you find here. I look forward to hearing from you!
